Industry experts call for unified custom regulations across the GCC at Food Logistics Forum

It is estimated that food logistics in the UAE will turnover 9.4 billion US Dollars by 2014.
This forecast is further driving food distributors to adhere to the stringent quality, safety and security regulations, set out by the Dubai Municipality, as revealed today at the Food Logistics Forum.
Supported by the Government of Dubai and the Dubai Municipality, the two day event, which concluded today, shone light on the latest trends and challenges, the industry is currently facing.
This morning’s session addressed the top 5 challenges in warehousing and distributing, including the lack of chilled refrigerated warehouses in the Middle East, and the need for a unified set of custom regulations across the GCC. Delegates emphasized that F&B companies face the problem of effectively monitoring the temperature of climate sensitive products and the tracking of goods, throughout the distribution chain, even in remote locations.
With the country currently importing 90% of its food, consumers are becoming more vigilant on use-by dates, quality and overall presentation of products, stocked on retailers’ shelves
