HAAD hails efforts made by Malls in the capital to combat smoking

The Health Authority Abu Dhabi has hailed the role shopping malls in the emirate have played, in combating smoking, through forbidding the use of tobacco in their establishments.
HAAD has awarded the Malls and all government and private entities and volunteers, that have supported their campaign titled ‘Abu Dhabi Says No to Tobacco’ that was launched in May this year.
HAAD statistics show that 24% of national males smoke, while expat males make up 29%. 0.08% of local females are smokers, while 6.6% are expat women.
Additional statistics show that tobacco use will kill 1 billion people this century, and globally 600,000 people die from the effects of second hand smoke, with the vast majority being women and children. HAAD officials say that tobacco control is a top priority and that over 200 healthcare professionals have undergone treatment and management training
